Trail map locationElvet Bridge
Calcutta Lights is a fusion of iconic images from Durham Cathedral with the Giant Gates that span the roads of Calcutta during the Durga Festival. Two imposing archways decorated with intricate interpretations of the Sanctuary Knocker and Rose Window will be created at either end of the Elvet Bridge, recycling the bamboo used earlier in the year for the Bambuco bridge which spanned the River Tyne in NewcastleGateshead. The spectacular front panels were made by a team of artisans working in Chandannager in Eastern India and have been created from 120,000 hand-wrapped bulbs attached to a delicate bamboo framework.
